The Mason 2 is a hardtail that can be ridden aggressively on the kind of trails you might have thought require a full-suspension bike. This trail bike is a fun-loving brawler, yet it practically floats over the rough stuff thanks to its ultra-wide, plus-size 27.5x2.8-inch tires.
We hung all manner of rowdy-ready parts on its rugged aluminum frame. The Mason 2 rolls atop our Blanchard 38R tubeless-ready wheels and comes equipped with a RockShox Judy Gold RL 120mm travel fork. A SRAM NX 1x11-speed drivetrain paired with Race Face cranks keeps you motoring uphill and down. Stay on your line thanks to the SRAM Level T hydraulic disc brakes. The Mason 2 is ready to rumble.
- Light and strong aluminum frame with precision-enhancing 148x12 Boost dropouts and rear thru-axle
- RockShox Judy Gold RL eats up bumps with its 120mm of plush travel
- Race Face cranks and SRAM NX 1x11 drivetrain makes for simple and efficient shifting
- Plenty of stopping power, courtesy of SRAM Level T hydraulic disc brakes
- Diamondback's Blanchard 38R wheels and Vee Rubber T-Fatty 2.8" tires offer insanely good grip
Wider than standard yet narrower than fat, plus-size rims and tires hit the sweet spot in grip, stability, and speed, giving you more confidence on technical terrain. Compared to a standard tire you’ll feel grip in places you wouldn’t expect thanks to a bigger contact patch and greater rollover clearance. More air volume allows lower tire pressures which softens bumps and increases float on sand or snow. Whether you’re a novice or an expert, the benefits of plus-size tires and rims will amplify your mountain biking fun.
A dropper seatpost allows you to quickly lower and raise your seat to give you an ideal riding position. Dropping your seat creates a lower center of gravity for better control and maneuverability on steep descents, while raising it puts you at normal riding height for efficient pedaling.
Construction can include either hydraulic- or cable-actuated systems and the post’s travel can either be infinitely adjustable or stopped at set intervals, depending on the model.
Dropper seatposts come in standard lengths and diameters and vary by the amount of travel.
